Roger Federer has discussed the reasons why he has enjoyed more success at Wimbledon than at any other Grand Slam.

Eight of Federers 20 Major titles have come at the All England Club – he can add a record-breaking ninth to his collection over the next fortnight.

The 36-year-old has not dropped a set at Wimbledon since the start of the 2017 tournament, having cruised through to the third round this year with straight set victories over Dusan Lajovic and Lukas Lacko.

Maybe its that it helps my slice, Federer said, when asked to pinpoint the factors that have allowed him to enjoy such immense success in SW19.

Maybe the footwork on grass comes easier to me than for other guys. Im not sure.

Then because I have a decent speed on the serve, and I can serve kick and slice.

Maybe also the grass helps me just a little bit to get a few more free points than what it would on some other surfaces. Im not sure.

Federer was speaking after his routine second-round win over Lacko on Centre Court on Wednesday. Despite approaching the age of 37, the Swiss shows no signs of slowing down.

Asked to explain the key factors that have enabled him to stay at the top of the game at his age, Federer added: I think physically to stay, you know, up there.

Especially in the last five years, I think thats been the number one key.

Keep on improving, with my coaches, fitness coach, trying to find new ways to keep practice and keep the matches entertaining.

So, yeah, I mean, its been good. Ive never fell out of love with the sport. I think thats been helpful, too.

Ive tried to keep the tour fun. Obviously since we have children, you have to try to make that work in some shape or form with my wife.

Its been a lot of change in the last 15 years, no doubt about it. I think we came through it well.

World number two Federer continues his Wimbledon campaign on Friday with a third-round meeting with Germanys Jan-Lennard Struff.
