The first round at Wimbledon is now complete, with a mixed set of results for the British contingent.

Here we take a look back at the action on the second day, where there were eight home favourites on court.

There were no major hiccups for Kyle Edmund nor Johanna Konta as the pair progressed with straight sets wins.

Edmund defeated Australias Alex Bolt 6-2 6-3 7-5, while Konta downed Natalia Vikhlyantseva 7-5 7-6 (9-7).

Both struggled in the final sets, with Konta requiring six match points to see it out but theyre well on their way.

What Edmund said: Im really happy to get through. To get that out of the way is great.

It was a tricky third set but it shows how well I was playing and thinking to come back there.

What Konta said: First rounds are always tricky. The conditions were tricky, breezy and gusty, it didnt make it easy.

I am playing these Championships independent of what happened last year. I am a little wiser this year, working hard to be here for a full two weeks.

The 19-year-old Brit suffered an agonising defeat on his debut at the All England Club, going down to Ernests Gulbis in five sets.

Clarke pushed the Latvian – a former top-10 player – all the way but was ultimately beaten 6-4 3-6 6-7 6-3 4-6.

What Clarke said: Not happy at all, to be honest. Yeah, Im very sad with how it ended.

After a difficult start, the young Brit battled back to take a set off former finalist Eugenie Bouchard – who had to qualify herself – but eventually lost 0-6 6-4 3-6.

What Taylor said: I thought it was amazing, incredible experience to, you know, have the opportunity for the first time in my life to play out here at Wimby in my first main draw Grand Slam. It was incredible experience, and today was just — it was a tough loss, but, you know, Im very happy with the home crowd support of me out there. It was great.
