Marouane Fellaini has officially signed a new contract and to say the announcement hasnt been met with universal approval would be something of an understatement.
Five years on from joining the club as David Moyes first signing, the 30-year-old continues to be a divisive figure despite cementing his status as a trusted foot soldier of Jose Mourinhos.
Fellainis size and physical power have proved a useful weapon for Mourinho, particularly in matches where his side have ended up chasing the game.

I am pleased to be continuing my journey as a Manchester United player. I made this decision because I am very happy here. Also, I feel like this team, under Jose, still has a lot we want to achieve. I would like to say a special thank you to Jose for the faith he has always.. pic.twitter.com/OVlogjmtJW

His unorthodox style and occasional clumsiness, not to mention his regular bouts of indiscipline, have hardly endeared him to the Old Trafford faithful, while his fitness problems saw him miss large swathes of last season.

Having finished 19 points behind Manchester City last season, many United fans feel the decision to retain Fellaini represents a backwards step and a surefire sign that Mourinhos squad will be incapable of mounting a challenge to Pep Guardiolas champions next time around…
Manchester United. Utter laughing stock. Gave Mourinho full backing even when its been brutal to watch majority of the time but if he thinks Fellaini is the answer then the games passed him by. We'll be miles behind City for years to come and thats the reality of it.

So the rumours were true. Fellaini has signed a 2x year deal. Struggling to see how this signing is going to win us the league next year. #MUFC

Cant wait to watch Pogba boot long balls up to Fellaini next season

No offense but the Fellaini Extension simply doesn't give me the confidence as we go in the new Season,If ever there was a Time to show how brutal we are and that we really like to compete ON THE BIG STAGE,then surely we have to let go of Fellaini

This is a leverage world, and Fellaini used his. Fair play. But youre delusional if you think we are going to make dramatic improvements between last season and next season, same club that just finished 19 points behind MC. And this is how we respond. Its funny, but Im tired.

Everything about Manchester United is a joke these days.
Fans are a joke
Board are a joke
Management is becoming a jokeWalking memes like Jones and Fellaini are a joke. Might as well put a circus tent over Old Trafford and get Mourinho in a top hat

Fellaini signing a new contract should be the beginning of the end of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Fellaini playing for your club isnt a bad thing but Fellaini playing for your club when Mourinho in charge is, you just know hes going to start in some games when he shouldnt, if utilised correctly Fellaini is one of the best impact subs in the world, pure carnage

I hope this is Mourinho's final season as well. I hope he is sacked before the season runs out. Any manager begging Fellaini to stay is not a manager I can respect.
