England dismantled Australias bowling attack for the second time in three days to go 4-0 up in the one-day international series.

Jason Roy scored his second international century this month and Jonny Bairstow smashed 79 as England chased Australias 310-8 with more than five overs to spare.

Earlier in the day, both Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch reached three figures as the tourists posted a competitive but below-par total.

England, who posted a world-record score of 481 on Tuesday, can complete a 5-0 whitewash in the final game of the series in Manchester on Sunday.

ENGLAND TEACH AUSTRALIA A LESSON

Ricky Ponting, the former Australia captain, paid tribute to a batting masterclass from England as Eoin Morgans side scored a world-record 481-6 at Nottingham.

And a similar onslaught emerged today as openers Roy and Bairstow tucked into Australias toothless attack.

Scoring 146 in the first 20 overs – in reply to Australias 310 – the in-form England batsmen essentially put the game to bed from the get go.

At the same stage, Australia were 104-1 and therein lies one of many differences between the two sides. England were expected to be too strong for this Australian side but few expected the gulf in quality to be so striking.

Roy, who departed on 101, has now scored 303 runs in the last three one-day internationalsa. Bairstow is not far behind, either, but he missed out on a successive century as he was caught behind for 79.

Australia dismissed both within quick succession but a destructive fifty from Jos Buttler took England over the winning line with 32 balls remaining.

AVERAGE AUSSIES

On the face of it 310-8 represents a decent effort from an Australian team that was surely rocked by their mauling at Trent Bridge just two days ago.

But the innings lacked urgency and the volume of boundaries required to compete with Morgans England.

Finch and Marsh struck centuries – and Travis Head made 63 – but all three innings were constructed at a strike-rate of around 100.

Roys ton – his second in the series – came off just 81 balls.

Marsh tried to provide some fireworks in the last five overs but by then it was too late. Englands bowlers had already restricted the tourists to a score that knew they would chase.

Australias cautious approach was put into the spotlight after Joe Root, bowling his part-time off-spin, skipped through his ten overs at the cost of just 44 runs.

CATCH OF THE…SERIES?

Roys reaction summed it up. He was not surprised at playing a huge part in a quite outstanding catch – he expected it.

As Marsh smashed David Willey over cow corner he looked destined to cash in on his sixth maximum of the day, but Roy had other ideas.

The Surrey star made up the ground to his left but was falling over the boundary with the ball in his hand before he chucked it to teammate Craig Overton, who completed the catch.

Thats magnificent awareness, Michael Vaughan told BBC Test Match Special. They practice that so much. First and foremost you have to take a good catch, then be aware of your feet.

Jonathan Agnew added: Its absolutely brilliant. Overton has to be aware too, because he was out of position.
