Ian Wright has hailed the return of another Arsenal favourite following Freddie Ljungbergs appointment as the clubs new Under-23 head coach.
Ljungberg, a winner of two Premier League titles and two FA Cups during his nine-year spell in north London, returns to the club following a brief spell at Wolfsburg, where he served as Andries Jonkers assistant manager.

The former Sweden international has already held a number of different roles at the Gunners academy, coaching the clubs Under-15 ranks in 2016 before serving as assistant to the Under-19 side in their Uefa Youth League campaign in the 2016-17 season.
Following the appointment of Per Mertesacker as the head of the clubs academy following his retirement at the end of last season and with Jens Lehmann returning to the club as a first-team coach last summer, Ljungberg becomes the latest club favourite to take up a role working behind the scenes.

And his return was welcomed by another former great in Wright, who is eager to see more ex-players return to the club during an important period of transition for the Gunners.
“Absolutely delighted to hear the news that Freddy is going to be taking over the youth team at Arsenal, great to see legends like that getting involved,” Wright said. “It can only be a good thing for the club and the youngsters, brilliant move again, [Arsenal] are really making some great moves again and Im really proud of what is going on there.”
Mertesacker was another to point out Ljungbergs resonance with the club as a key factor behind the appointment, insisting the Swede “understands the clubs values” and “how important it is to give young players the opportunity to grow and develop.”
Ljungberg, a member of Arsenals Invincibles team, scored 46 goals and made over 300 appearances during his time in north London.
