Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has cast fresh doubt over his Spurs future after calling on chairman Daniel Levy to be “brave” and “take risks” in order to ensure the club reaches the next level.
The north Londoners, who were already assured of Champions League football next season, secured their third successive top-three Premier League finish by edging a crazy nine-goal thriller against Leicester.
While Tottenham have undergone a clear on-pitch transformation during the four years of Pochettinos reign, the Argentinian is anxious to be given assurances over the next stage of development, and plans to hold talks with Levy imminently.
“You need to be brave,” said Pochettino. “In this type of situation being brave is important and you need to take risks. It is the moment in which the club needs to take risks.
“We need to talk a lot with the club. I have a very clear idea of what we need to do. I dont know if the club will agree with me or not but we are going to talk to create the new project or what I think we need to do together again to try and improve.”
When asked if he will definitely be in charge of Tottenham next season, Pochettino added: “Today 100 per cent, I feel like Im here but the most important thing is tomorrow all can change.
“It is not in my hands. It is not my decision to be here or not, it depends on my boss. It is healthy for ourselves and the club to think you can lose your job tomorrow.”
Leicester led 3-1 moments into the second period as a stunning Kelechi Iheanacho strike added to goals in the first period from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, while Harry Kane had levelled for the hosts.
But Tottenham stormed back through two Erik Lamela efforts and an unfortunate Christian Fuchs own goal before Vardy equalised, only for Kane to settle matters by curling home his 30th league goal of the campaign.
