Zlatan Ibrahimovic has nominated David de Gea as Manchester Uniteds player of the season.
The Spain international is the red hot favourite to win a record fourth Sir Matt Busby gong at Uniteds end of season awards ceremony tonight, overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo who won the accolade in 2004, 2007 and 2008.
Ibrahimovic ended his 18-month association with United earlier this year when he joined MLS franchise LA Galaxy but sent a video message ahead of the event to endorse his former teammate.

Player of the year I want say David de Gea, even if a goalkeeper shouldnt get Player of the Year, said the 36-year-old, with a nod to his old manager Jose Mourinho, who claimed last year he didnt want his No.1 to win the award as it would represent a sign of a brittle defence.

But he has had a fantastic year, like every other year. He continues that high level of performance, so that is my vote.
Ibrahimovic added: Good to see that you are doing well, you have made it to the final, which I like a lot, even if I am not there.
Here everything is ok, here it is sunny every day. I hope you guys also enjoy your weather!

I want to say to all the fans, I miss you. I miss playing at Old Trafford, seeing all the red shirts, I have great memories from there.
I want to thank everybody for the push, for the energy, the adrenaline that you gave me.
I want to thank my teammates also, you made it easy for me, especially in the first year and also in the second from another point of view.
Coach, I miss you also. Youre doing well, you know what you need to do to win, so there is no secret behind it.
I hope you win the final and the mentality continues from last year.
I just want to make sure that everything is alright and good – but I can see it so I am not worried.
