Phil Thompson insists the signing of midfielder Naby Keita will help Liverpool close the gap on Premier League champions-elect Manchester City next season.

Jurgen Klopps squad will be bolstered by the addition of Keita at the end of the season – the Guinean star has agreed to sign from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £48million.

Having progressed to the Champions League semi-finals, Liverpool return to domestic action this weekend with a home clash against Bournemouth.
