Up-and-coming South West athletes wanting to take their game to the next level have an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Olympians and sporting professionals by being part of a specialist program.
The South West Academy of Sport is currently offering positions in its Individual Athlete Support Program, with a limited number of openings available to athletes aged between 15 and 18, who are excelling in their chosen discipline.
South West Academy of Sport chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said now was the time for young sports men and women to apply to receive the nurturing required to take the next step forward in their sporting careers.
“We aim to provide high-level support so participants can develop as athletes and make the leap into national and international representation,” she said.
“If you want to take your sport to the next level, we will provide you with the tool kit.
“Access to high-performance coaching and training as well as service providers such as sports psychologists, physiotherapists and nutritionists are some of the benefits of being one of our athletes.”
Past program participants include Olympian Alexandra Hagan, surfer Bronte Macaulay, Olympian Lauren
Reynolds, boxer Nathaniel May and cricketer Sam Whiteman.
The South West Academy of Sport was established to provide aspiring South West athletes with access to talent development opportunities close to home.
To be eligible, applicants must meet the criteria set out in the application pack.
