In the absence of their skipper, Argentina were totally second best against Spain and shipped six goals in a 6-1 defeat – marking their heaviest defeat to European opposition since 1958.
Argentina last conceded six times in the lofty altitude of La Paz when they were defeat 6-1 by Bolivia in 2009, with their heaviest defeat before that coming 60 years ago against Czechoslovakia at the World Cup.
