Vince Vaughn turns 48 Wednesday and theres plenty of reason to celebrate the entertainment legend. Not only is he a whopping 65″, hilarious, and down to earth, hes also one of the few conservatives in Hollywood.
The “Wedding Crashers” star has routinely defended his right-leanings views to talk show hosts, actors and other left leaning colleagues in the entertainment industry.
Hes been accused of being all the predictable tropes conservatives usually take hits for. Hes been called a “gun-slinging NRA poster boy,” alt-right and “at least mildly racist.”
But Vince Vaughn doesnt let the trolls get him down. He continues defending his conservative values and — although he should be celebrated every day for his valiant efforts — weve got to commemorate some of his best political moments on his birthday.
1- Vaughn has been an avid supporter of Ron Paul. In 2013, he told “The Adam Corolla Show” why Paul appealed to him so much:
I think that what you come, as you get older, you just get less trust in the government running anything. And that you start to realize when you really go back and look at the Constitution and the principles of liberty, the real purpose of government is to protect the individuals right to, you know, sort of think and pursue what they have interest in. And that when you start drawing the lines of saying, as a society, we think this is inappropriate, were going to pass laws to protect them from themselves and or take things away to protect themselves or move money from here to there, that you realize that you wake up with corruption and without the unintended consequences youll wake up with a lot of problems that didnt exist prior.
2- In 2015, Vaughn told Playboy magazine what he thought about taxes:
Once you start playing that game, where does it stop? I like the way it was until 1913 [when the 16th Amendment was ratified, legalizing a federal income tax], when locally you had sales taxes and property taxes. That seems ethical to me, because I can move to a different neighborhood or area if I like the services they provide. To this day, your police department and your fire department are paid for with local taxes, and that makes sense, because you might use those. But the federal government looking into your books to decide what to take from you, that feels wrong.
3- Later in the interview, he explained his stance on guns:
I believe in the right to defend yourself if need be. Hopefully youre never in that situation, but I think youre fairly naive to believe there will never be a cause for self-defense. But again, I believe its up to the individual. I dont believe rights come in groups. You shouldnt get more or fewer rights because of what you believe in or what nationality you were born into.
4- And again on guns, this time to GQ:
I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home. We dont have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. Its not about duck hunting; its about the ability of the individual. Its the same reason we have freedom of speech. Its well known that the greatest defence against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back. All these gun shootings that have gone down in America since 1950, only one or maybe two have happened in non-gun-free zones. Take mass shootings. Theyve only happened in places that dont allow guns. These people are sick in the head and are going to kill innocent people. They are looking to slaughter defenceless human beings. They do not want confrontation. In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f***ing schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds.
5- On Affirmative Action:
Ill answer that with a question. Do you believe that using race as a factor in evaluating a person is a good way to operate?
6- On personal liberties:
The Patriot Act? Lets get rid of it. Undeclared wars, doing away with personal liberties—lets understand how that has worked out historically to see that it has led to some horrible things. Once our personal liberties are gone, when an American citizen can be pulled out of his house and detained for six months without a trial, where is our country? Once those rights are gone, how do you get them back? Once the government is allowed to listen to you, how do you get that privacy back?
7- On regulating drugs and other substances:
Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it wont rid the world of criminality.
Its probably pretty safe to say that Vince Vaughn is one of the wokest guys in Hollywood. Hes an American treasure and deserves to be celebrated every single day.
