Mohamed Salah has insisted social media is just for fun and fans should not dwell on his posts for too long.

The Liverpool star is regularly active on his Twitter account and aimed a well-timed swipe at Manchester United after the Red Devils were knocked out of the Champions League by Sevilla.

United had beaten Liverpool in their previous game and Salah had been showered with abuse from rival supporters after a below par performance.

Ashley Young even got in on the act after the game, before Salah gained revenge over United by tweeting after the shock Sevilla victory at Old Trafford: ‘The UCL draw can’t come soon enough.’

Salah has now addressed the tweet while on international duty with Egypt.

He said: ‘As for being active on social media, I sometimes go on it and follow things… At the end of the day, social media for me is something you do for fun.

‘I can’t let it affect me, change my mood or change my perspective on life. I’m not even bother by it.

‘I can go on it for joking around, like the funny thing that happened last week. It was funny but it’s all over now.’

Liverpool secured their quarter-final spot with ease against Porto, but United failed to make it past Sevilla despite the second leg being at home.

United will now focus their energies on finishing second in the Premier League and claiming a FA Cup trophy.

Liverpool drew Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and will need two big performances from Salah to progress past the soon-to-be English champions.

Salah’s hat-trick against Watford last weekend took him to 28 league goals for Liverpool in his debut season as a Red.
