Walt Disney is to buy the entertainment assets of Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox for $52.4 billion (€44 billion).
The deal includes Fox’s 39 percent stake in the satellite broadcaster Sky, and the 20th Century Fox film studio, Disney announced in a statement Thursday.
Other Fox assets, including Fox News and Fox Sports, will form a new company called New Fox under Murdoch’s control.
“We are extremely proud of all that we have built at 21st Century Fox, and I firmly believe that this combination with Disney will unlock even more value for shareholders as the new Disney continues to set the pace in what is an exciting and dynamic industry,” said Murdoch.
According to the Guardian, the deal will not have an impact on the proposed takeover by 21st Century Fox of the 61 percent of Sky that it does not own. The U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority will continue to investigate that deal. It is due to publish provisional findings in January.
