Ex-Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand has accused Arsene Wenger of taking Arsenal ‘backwards’ after the side’s draw with West Ham.
The Gunners dropped out of the top six after a 0-0 draw in east London and Wenger’s men are now without a win in their last three league outings.
Wenger was handed a new two-year deal at the end of last season after guiding the Gunners to FA Cup glory but they failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in his tenure.
Arsenal are now 19 points behind leaders Manchester City and Ferdinand believes the Gunners are going backwards under the Frenchman.

‘If I’m an Arsenal fan I’m sitting there and asking the question “where is the progress over the last few years?” said Ferdinand.
‘Tell me where the progress is with this side because that’s what you look for year in and year out. You look for progression within a football club, within a team [and] I don’t see it.
‘I see players going backwards. I don’t see players improving dramatically under this regime and that is the worrying part for me.
‘And when you look at this Arsenal team and the history of Arsenal, even Arsene Wenger’s early tenure at the club it was about trophies, it was about winning and competing for titles, for leagues. They are not doing that now. They are fighting for one or two positions in the Champions League.

The Gunners host Newcastle United this weekend before taking on Liverpool at the Emirates before Christmas.
Wenger’s men were handed a favourable last-32 clash against Ostursend in the Europa League.
