Ed Sheeran has been named the biggest star on YouTube in the UK in 2017, topping the site’s most popular video lists for the year.
The singer’s appearance on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke was named the top trending video of the year, while his official video for single Shape Of You was the most popular music video on the site in the UK.
Sheeran’s karaoke efforts on The Late Late Show segment topped the list ahead of YouTube personality KSI’s ‘Epic Sax Guy’ video and the trailer for the upcoming Star Wars film, The Last Jedi.
His karaoke video has been watched more than 39 million times, while the official Shape Of You video has now been watched more than two billion times globally.
Fellow singer Harry Styles’ own take on Carpool Karaoke also appeared in the UK’s top 10 trending list, as does Britain’s Got Talent finalist Kyle Tomlinson’s memorable first audition where he performed Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, which earned him a Golden Buzzer from judge David Williams.
In the UK music video list, Luis Fonsi’s smash hit Despacito was second and DJ Khaled’s I’m The One was third.
Despacito also made YouTube history earlier in the year by becoming the first video in the site’s history to reach four billion total views globally, a feat that sees it edge out Sheeran and Shape Of You on the global 2017 YouTube music video list.
