Michael Oliver was forced to explain to Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool‘s 1-1 draw with Chelsea that he thought the German was trying to time-waster when he wanted to bring on Adam Lallana.
Klopp was furious with Oliver’s decision to deny Liverpool the opportunity to bring on Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane in the closing minutes of the game.
Lallana was ready to come on when the ball went out of play for a throw-in, but Oliver waved away Klopp’s pleas to make the change and Willian scored Chelsea’s equaliser moments later.

Klopp insisted after the draw he was trying to change Liverpool’s shape to 5-3-2 to counteract Antonio Conte’s decision to bring on Willian moments before.
Liverpool fans were bemused to see Lallana and Mane both come on in the 89th minute with barely any time to rescue the game and go back in front.
But, Klopp explained Oliver was the one who decided Liverpool would have to wait to make their changes.
The Times claim Klopp sought Oliver out after the game and the referee explained he believed the Liverpool boss was trying to con him.
Liverpool were leading 1-0 at the time and were attempting to see out the game and earn a narrow victory.
