Hall of fame quarterback Warren Moon is strongly denying charges that he sexually harassed a former executive assistant who has filed a lawsuit against him.
Wendy Haskell, 32, has filed a suit alleging that Moon regularly groped her and harassed her when she was traveling with him for speaking engagements, charity events, and other appearances.
But the nine-time pro-bowl player who played pro football in both the Canadian and American leagues is denying the charges, Pro Football Talk reports.
“Warren Moon has yet to be served with the lawsuit filed by Wendy Haskell, but he is aware of the claims contained in it,” Moon’s attorney, Daniel Fears, said. “Mr. Moon denies the claims by Ms. Haskell. Mr. Moon contends these claims are meritless, and he has every intention to vigorously defend himself in court.”
Despite the denial, after the allegations were made public, Moon stepped aside from his position as a member of the Seahawks’ game-day broadcasting team.
Moon’s lawyer explained that his client took that action because he is afraid “his duties as a commentator on the Seattle Seahawks radio network will be impacted as he defends himself against these claims.”
The attorney said that if the former Houston Oilers player is served with papers for a lawsuit, he will fight the allegations in court.
Moon was also sued for sexual harassment in 1995 when he was playing for the Minnesota Vikings. In that case, a Vikings cheerleader alleged that Moon offered her cash for sex. The case was settled out of court.
If he is found guilty in this case, Moon could also face disciplinary measures from both the Seattle Seahawks and the league under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy.
