Spurs fans rest easy: Real Madrid don’t want Kane – yet

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has poured cold water on talk of a bid for Harry Kane, insisting Tottenham would demand a world record fee for the prolific England forward.

The European champions have been tipped to make a move next summer for Kane, the Premier League’s top scorer for the last two seasons who has netted 17 times for club and country already this term.

But Perez distanced Real from an imminent offer for the 24-year-old, arguing that they were satisfied with striker Karim Benzema, 29, despite the France star only scoring twice in the current campaign.

“Signing Harry Kane has not passed through my head,” said Perez.

“He is a great player and in addition he is young. He has many years to progress, but we are delighted with Benzema and with all of the team. I didn’t ask Tottenham’s president for the price because he would have told me that he [Kane] is worth €250m (£223m).”

Kane has consistently expressed his happiness at Spurs, although he left the door ajar for a move to one of Europe’s giants when asked earlier this month.

“I would never say no or yes,” Kane said. “You’d not rule out anything. I’m very happy here but we’ll see what happens.”

Kane has talked up his hopes of emulating Real star Cristiano Ronaldo, who was named the world’s best player by governing body Fifa on Monday.
